GCHS Hosts The Pierrot Consort
"We are very honored today," commented Garden City High School music teacher, Mrs. Margaret Gullotta on November 20th as she introduced the Pierrot Consort to high school orchestra members. The Pierrot Consort, the faculty ensemble-in-residence at Long Island University, performed duet, trio, quartet and quintet chamber music selections for the attending high school students. Currently celebrating its 28th season, the Pierrot Consort includes: Susan Deaver, flute; Dale Stuckenbruck, violin; Veronica Salas, viola; Maureen Hynes, cello and Heawon Kim, piano.
By virtue of its intent for small group performances, "chamber music creates connections," Dr. Dale Stuckenbruck explained to the students. Consort members shared a brief history of each composer before performing their works, discussed their musical instruments and answered questions posed by the high school musicians.
The Pierrot Consort was originally modeled after the instrumentation of Schoenberg's Pierrot Lunaire and is dedicated to performing new music, as well as the standard repertoire. In addition to its regular concert series at Long Island University, The Pierrot Consort has performed at Merkin Concert Hall, Weill Recital Hall, the Kennedy Center, the Bartok Society at Saranac Lake, the Bruce Museum in Greenwich, Connecticut, the Stockbridge Chamber Concerts in Great Barrington, Massachusetts, the St. Paul Chapel Series at Columbia University, NYC, and for the Islip Arts Council.
