"We are very honored today," commented Garden City High School music teacher, Mrs. Margaret Gullotta on November 20th as she introduced the Pierrot Consort to high school orchestra members. The Pierrot Consort, the faculty ensemble-in-residence at Long Island University, performed duet, trio, quartet and quintet chamber music selections for the attending high school students. More ... Enrollment is now open for HOLA's Winter 2009 Spanish Classes! The Spanish Class program is available to children in grades K-5 and will be offered on Mondays at Stratford School. Congratulations to 15 gifted Garden City Middle School students for their acceptance to Adelphi's 2008 Excelsior Program. The two-week math and science enrichment program, which was taught by Adelphi professors and graduate students, was held over the summer and included trips to environmental sites where students had the opportunity to work with geologists and naturalists in the field. More ... Keith DeCarlo a 2002 graduate of Garden City High school was awarded his Masters degree in Ceramic Engineering from Alfred University, in Alfred, NY in September 2008. Engineers and Scientists create and combine ceramic materials for specific purposes and new applications. On Tuesday, November 25, Buckley Country Day School students and teachers delivered 115 boxes of food for Thanksgiving dinners to the families who currently reside in two different shelters in Jamaica, Queens. Students along with their families contributed the turkeys and groceries for the boxes that the students then decorated and filled for delivery. More ... The Italian 4 Honors class was recently honored to have special guest author, Paola Corso, an award-winning Italian-American fiction writer and poet, speak with the students about the art of writing fairytales. Logan and Andromidas, after school tutors, organized a benefit tag sale which raised $1,700 for the school. In addition, they also collected and donated sports equipment. More ... We want to cheer the kids up in the hospital, so we painted a giant apple for their playroom," stated one kindergartner in Donna Welch's class at the Homestead School. "They can pretend that they are outside near an apple tree," another child remarked.
