Middle School Students In Art Exhibit
Two students from Ms. Lori Rousku's Garden City Middle School eighth grade art class, Shannon Carman (left) and Anne Foxen (right), have been chosen to show their artwork at the 19th Annual Legislative Student Art Exhibition hosted by NYSATA (New York State Art Teacher's Association). The exhibition will take place Friday, Jan. 16 - Jan. 23. Opening reception will be Tuesday, Jan. 20, 2009, 12:30 - 2:00 pm in the Legislative Office Building, Albany, N.Y.
Ms. Rousku's students worked on their art projects in class, focusing on the fundamental elements of art, such as, form, value, and space. They learned how to achieve a three-dimensional appearance on a two-dimensional picture plane by applying value with a graphite pencil. Students arranged their forms in a well composed space and then added contrasting colors for their background and foreground to complete their pieces.
"I am very proud of my students' consistent hard work and inspired ability to perceive the world around them in such unique and creative ways," commented Ms. Rouska (center). "I am excited to have Anne and Shannon exhibiting their work in Albany for the 2009 NYSATA Art Exhibition. I look forward to the many other art exhibits and contests ahead that will showcase the talented artwork of the Garden City Middle School students!"
