A Word From The Publisher

We were glad to see that the Village has hired a firm to make sure the Village's concerns about the Nassau Hub proposal are heard. The Hub design includes a proposal for a light rail link between the Mineola train station and the development proposed for east of Garden City. Such a light rail system would likely have even more impact on Garden City than (dare we say it?) the fate of St. Paul's.

While the public's attention has been focused on St. Paul's, little public debate has gone on over the Hub and it's rail link. We hope that a consultant can help clarify what could happen in the event that the plan is adopted by the county.

We agree with the comments by Trustee Nicholas Episcopia that it is appropriate for Garden City to have its own consultants instead of sharing one with Mineola. While the plan impacts both communities, our interests are quite different, and we should each have our own experts examine it.

There is nothing wrong with sharing our findings with our neighbors, but in the end, the Board of Trustees is responsible to protect the people of Garden City.
