Holiday Activity For the Family

On Tuesday, December 30 at 11:00 a.m., the library is proud to present Strummin' and Drummin' with Matt, a show for the whole family. Tickets will be available beginning December 20th at 9:00 a.m.

It's gift-giving time! Trying to think of thoughtful, original and inexpensive gifts this December? The Children's Department has a large craft section, full of things for parents and children to make together. Kathy Ross, author of many crafting titles, has Christmas Presents Kids Can Make, Christmas Ornaments Kids Can Make, and Christmas Crafts Kids Can Make. Other titles include Great Gifts, Gifts to Make and Eat, Paper Tags and Crafts and Gifts Kids Can Make. We also have many more books on Holiday Crafts, Cards, Gift Wrap and other things you can make with your children. They'll be so proud to give out things that they made themselves with you.

Three Apples Award Update

During the month of October, young patrons of the Garden City Library had the opportunity to nominate a favorite book for the Three Apples Award, a New York State program to honor great children's books and encourage the love of reading. All across New York, the votes have been tallied and the nominations have been announced! The nominees include three of J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter titles, Jeff Kinney's Diary of a Wimpy Kid and its sequel Rodrick Rules, Holes by Louis Sachar, The B.F.G. by Roald Dahl, and The Tale of Desperaux by Kate DiCamillo. More information can be found at http://www.3applesbookaward.org, and this spring, children will vote in one of these great books and authors as the winner! Stay tuned for more news.

Please check the library website www.gardencitypl.org for upcoming events, registration dates, and information. Funding for these programs has been provided by the Friends of the Garden City Public Library. Priority for registration and participation is given to children who are Garden City Public Library cardholders.
