At this year's Garden City Centennial Soccerfest, the U11 Girls team, the Power, led a cleat and equipment drive that resulted in the collection of nearly 200 pairs of soccer cleats, as well as soccer balls and shin pads. Furthermore, the Centennial Soccer Club itself donated additional balls, nets, and numerous unused uniform shirts. The equipment has since been delivered to the Queens Soccer Foundation by Garden City resident and parent Peter Kenny, daughter Mary Kate, and Power trainer Donny Schreier during a day of competition at the Metrokids Inter Regional Soccer League in Flushing Meadows Corona Park, Queens.

The Queens Soccer Foundation is a non-profit organization that helps provide the opportunity to play soccer to youth in New York City and also assists underprivileged communities and youth in South America through the provision of soccer equipment. And indeed, no sooner had this donation been made in Queens than a batch of Centennial uniforms were accompanying a Queens Soccer Foundation representative on a flight to Bolivia.

A happy child with a new pair of cleats. The Queens Soccer Foundation and Metrokids Soccer would like to extend their sincerest thanks to the Garden City community for its generosity, and they would also like to inform you that having been inspired by your example they have since established The Queens Soccer Foundation Recycling Table. The table is now set up at each meeting of the Metrokids Soccer League so that others may donate or receive much-needed soccer equipment.
