"The History of A.T. Stewart's Garden City" class finished the five week course with a night in the Cathedral of the Incarnation. The course, offered through the Continuing Education Department of the Public Schools, was taught by Village Historian John Ellis Kordes. The class was held on Monday nights in the High School and Kordes arranged for the last class to be held in the Cathedral.
The Cathedral staff was gracious enough to have all the lights on and allowed the class to explore the entire interior including the crypt. Kordes was able to share the many stories associated with this historic 1885 Cathedral. It, along with St. Mary's and St. Paul's, was built as a memorial to Garden City's founder A.T. Stewart by his wife Cornelia. Stewart had died in 1876 less than seven years after beginning Garden City.
