Advent Day Of Reflection At Cathedral
Father Joseph Pae and Deacon Connie Lorenz facilitated the Day of Reflection for Cathedral parishioners.
On Saturday, November 22nd a group of parishioners from the Episcopal Cathedral of the Incarnation attended an "Advent Day of Reflection" During the weeks of Advent the scripture texts guide the way to the coming of the Messiah. Advent is a time about waiting and preparing for the Messiah. It is a time to learn about patience and courage, and to learn how to accept a blessing so long in coming that it is no longer expected. During this Day of Reflection, the participants were afforded an opportunity to slow down and become encouraged to attend to their own pilgrimage. They heard of the Loving God who sets a table of delight in the wilderness of their lives. Advent is a call to hope, peace, joy and love.
Times of spiritual retreat like this one also provide "dessert interludes" in which listening to the Creator takes precedence over all other activities. There are two important questions to ask each day: Where am I at this moment in my pilgrimage and how does God invite me to be intentional about prayer? This Day of Reflection was all about hearing that pilgrimage for God's children. It was about letting go of the safe and the burdensome for the freedom of knowing that dependence on the Creator is enough. This Day of Reflection was about encountering God through the Word, through music, through personal time for prayer, and through reflection, as well as encountering God through each other.
