It was a sunny but very cold afternoon at John Burns Park in Massapequa where the Garden City Thunder was preparing to play the undefeated Massapequa Mustangs in the NCYFL Championship game. The Mustangs won the coin toss and ran the opening kickoff back to the Thunder 30 yard before Conor Muldoon was able to tackle the ball carrier. More ... The Trojans avenged their 2007 state final loss by defeating Rondout Valley 2-1 in the Class B state championship game on November 15, 2008. Garden City led at half-time on a goal from Caroline McTiernan at the 11:46 mark assisted by Lauren Terracciano. Rondout Valley came out strong in the 2nd half eventually tying the game 1-1 with just 6:40 remaining. More ... The Garden City Recreation Department is pleased to announce that Rich Anderson and the Recreation Staff will conduct our very popular gym program for children in grades 3-5. The Garden City FIRE U9 travel baseball team completed another successful fall season. The FIRE ended the season against the LIAS Sharks. Although the FIRE lost a thrilling 9-8 game, the game was an exciting back and forth battle and really showed just how much the boys improved over the year. More ... This season we are honored once again to be selected to host a JrNBA/JrWNBA Skills Challenge. This great FREE event is open to everyone...including non-participants in our program. Last year we had numerous contestants receive regional and national honors. The Skills Challenge is expected to be Wednesday January 30th 7pm for Girls and Wednesday February 6th 7pm for Boys.
