AAUW Celebrates 70th Anniversary
Sally Richmond received an award for her exemplary dedication to the branch since 1972 at the LI AAUW Interbranch Luncheon held at Milleridge Inn.
The Garden City Branch of AAUW is off and running in its goal of promoting women's interest in Garden City and surrounding communities during its jubulant 70th anniversary. Its officers and chairpersons have set forth outstanding programs for this celebratory year including a musical show at the Garden City Library called "Great American Music: Broadway Musicals," travel to points of interest close to home, theater trips, book discussions, social bridge, as well as its "Great Decisions" program, which sizes problems to be solved in the world. Garden City AAUW networks with local colleges, other Long Island AAUW branches, and the Garden City Nursery School, which the branch originally established.
Many upcoming events encompass AAUW's interest in education. Proceeds from its annual Book and Author Luncheon will help provide grants at the national level of AAUW. Local students are also rewarded. Beginning in November, the "One Woman at a Time" project will help support a family in need through an affiliation with New Ground.

Monthly branch meetings held at the Garden City Library provide a broad spectrum of key topics affecting the individual, the community, and the larger society, plus events are offered for sheer enjoyment.
Other programs AAUW holds in the library's meeting room give a glimpse of the many support groups that lend their hand to meet urgent Long Island needs.
