Well it's turkey time and I am thinking of my turkey, all the trimmings, and, of course, the apple pie as I write this column. However, as you read this, you have already enjoyed the groaning board and are probably thinking of giving up eating for at least a week. A friend sent me a chuckle that I will share with you even though the day is over. Question: Who is not hungry at Thanksgiving? Answer: The turkey- he was already stuffed. Now you all have to remember that Christmas- and not just the day- is coming and this is a month-long season of feasting all month long.

The folks at the Cherry Valley Club held their dinner/bridge this past Wednesday, November 12th and the first small slam of the evening was dealt, bid, and made by Janet and Bruce Littlejohn. The happy winners of the door prize were Carol Eafthimiou and Janice Salem. Their prize was a gift certificate from Feldis Florists so we know they will have a lovely centerpiece on their tables for the holidays. Jane Krull filled in for George Rivara for that evening and I hear she did a great job. The Littlejohns won a bottle of wine and closed out the week by attending the Garden City Assebly's Dinner/Dance that weekend. They are past presidents of that group and I hear that it was a wonderful affair.

The ladies of the Garden City Casino held their monthly lunch/bridge this past week. Among those enjoying the afternoon were Agnes Rimmels, Trudy Anderson, Lucille Tilitz, Grace Murphy, Doris Forster, Florence Beach and Annemarie Gordon.

Lunch and bridge were also on the minds of the ladies of the Garden City Country Club who held theirs on Thursday, November 20th. There were thirty tables in play following the delicious buffet luncheon and the first small slam of the day was made by Joy Losgar and Jane Krull. The winner of the monthly door prize was Helen Kratt. The elusive grand slam was missing in both of that week's bridges. Bridge chairlady Muriel Urban announced the date of the next lunch/bridge would be Thursday, Deccember 4th and to be sure to make your reservations.

The Community Club will hold its President's Day- Christmas Hour of Music on Tuesday, December 2nd at the Cathedral of the Incarnation. Presented yearly by the music department of the club with Paula Howe as chairman, the afternoon will be one of Christmas music followed by refreshments at the Garden City Casino across the street from the Cathedral. What a nice way to start off the Christmas season.

The Garden Department of the Community Club will hold its Greens Day on December 3rd when they will make sprays for all the Veteran's Memorials in town: the Fireman's Memorial, the 9/11 Memorial, arrangements for both the Garden City and Hempstead Libraries, the Village Hall, and the Fire, Police and Recreation Departments. This is another annual service that the Community Club's Garden Department has been doing for many years.

Happy birthday wishes go to Gert Perrini , who celebrates her special day on November 30th and to Maureen Fraser , who does the same on December 3rd. May both ladies have a wonderful day and a great year filled with good health and much happiness with many more years to come.

It was a sad (but true) letter to the Editor in this past week's paper written by Norma Takach , the last president of the Woman's Club of Garden City. Norma wrote on the demise of the Club after 94 years and gave some interesting information on its background that made it even sadder to read. You did a great job Norma, and it's a shame that your efforts did not produce a solution. It's sad, too, to lose a club that was a vital part of this town for so long. We also lost the Garden City Chapter of the Homemakers who will be missed. I think that you did a wonderful thing, Norma, donating your treasury money to so many worthy charities supported over the years with your Philanthropic Deptartment. All my best wishes go to you, the members of your board and to your club's members.

My thought for today is: Artificial intelligence is no match for natural stupidity. See you next week.
