Arts In Education Program

ArtsPower National Touring Theater brought the one-act play, My Heart in a Suitcase, to the Garden City Middle School sixth grade on October 20, 2008. The play, which is based on a true story about a Jewish girl named Anne Lehmann Fox, occurred in Germany prior to and during World War Two. The events which took place affected the relationships between Anne, her family, and her best friend, a German girl named Dorit. The play addressed the hardships imposed by the Nazis upon Jewish people in Germany during that time, and celebrated the strength of the human spirit.

The message of My Heart in a Suitcase to young people today is about the importance of fostering respect for the human rights and dignity of every person and of fighting intolerance. This program was coordinated by the Arts in Education Committee of the Garden City PTA and GCUFSD Administration and funded by the Garden City Union Free School District.
