Thunder 11's Borges Advance To Championship Game
Brian Colamussi making touchdown saving tackle
It was a blustery and cold fall afternoon at Allen Park in Farmingdale where the Garden City Thunder was preparing to play the Inwood Buccaneers in a 2nd round playoff game. The Thunder won the coin toss but could not move the ball very far in our first possession but that would not continue for very long. Our defense took the field and really took control of the Inwood offense not allowing them any room to move the ball. The Defense was led by Brian Goulard, Lucas D'Aversa, Luke Armstrong, Ben Walsh, Matias Yianatos, Justin Holloway, Thomas Mascola, Chris Repetti, Kevin Sprotte, Justin Samardich, Liam Byrnes, James Sullivan, Brian Colamussi, Colin Castro, Patrick Slovensky and Conor Muldoon. It was at this point that our offensive line began to take control of the game opening big holes for our running backs; it was a couple of real crushing blocks by Conor Muldoon which really set the tone for the balance of the game. Thanks to our powerful offensive line, James Sullivan led the way with three touchdown runs and Justin Samardich added one with a great 50 yard run breaking a few tackles and scoring. A sure sign the offense is running on all cylinders is that we converted 3 of 4 extra points, 2 passes from Matt Borges to Conor Muldoon and one from James Sullivan to Justin Samardich (great catch dragging the toes). The Thunder ended the first half with a 14 - 0 lead and our boys knew they had to finish strong in order to close out the Buccaneers. The finely conditioned Thunder team did just that coming out in the second half and really controlling the balance of the game for the 27 - 0 victory!!!! The victory in the NCYFL semi finals moved our record to 8 - 2 and has allowed the Thunder to advance to the Championship game on Sunday against the undefeated Massapequa Mustangs. The game will be played on Sunday November 23 at John Burns Park in Massapequa at 2 PM. Please come out and support the Thunder in their attempt to become only the second Thunder team to win a NCYFL Championship!!!! GO THUNDER!!!!!!!
