The Waldorf School of Garden City is proud to announce that four high school seniors - Brian Lindsay, Julie Marissael, Alison McRae and Mackenzie Wenner - have been named Commended Students in the 2009 National Merit Scholarship Program.
"We are very proud of Brian, Julie, Alison and Mackenzie's outstanding academic achievements," said High School Chairman Roland Rothenbucher. "They each have demonstrated an enduring passion for learning which will serve them and others well wherever life leads them. These students are emerging leaders of the future."
A student at the Waldorf School since Kindergarten, Brian Lindsay plays on the School's Boys Varsity Soccer Team, sings in the high school chorus and madrigals, and is a member of the Student Council. Outside of school, he studies traditional Irish music and step-dancing where he competes at the international level.
Daughter of Waldorf alumnus Kenneth Marissael '71 and granddaughter of former Lower School French teacher Christiane Marissael, Julie Marissael is a longtime resident of East Williston and entered the Waldorf School in eighth grade. She is currently working towards her Girl Scout Gold Award project having previously earned both her Silver and Bronze Awards. During the spring, she plays softball for Waldorf's varsity team. In college, she plans to major in architectural studies and minor in studio arts.
Alison McRae has attended the Waldorf School since the sixth grade. In addition to playing on all three Girls' Varsity sports teams, Alison is currently co-president of the High School student body and the senior editor of the yearbook. An admissions ambassador for the school, Alison is always eager to give new families an informative tour of the facilities.
A student at the Waldorf School since third grade, Mackenzie Wenner is co-president of the High School student body, plays on the Boys Varsity Soccer team and is junior-editor of the school yearbook. Every summer, since he was eight years old, Mackenzie has run a small business selling bread at the end of his driveway and donated much of the proceeds to various Long Island charities.
