News From The Children's Room

The results are in! The children of Garden City have voted, and in a decisive victory, Fancy Nancy, by Jane O'Connor, won Favorite Children's Book! Second place went to four popular series: the Skippyjon Jones picture books by Judy Schachner, the Frog and Toad easy readers by Arnold Lobel, the Magic Tree House books by Mary Pope Osborne, and the Harry Potter books by J.K Rowling. Longtime favorites Arthur by Marc Brown, Curious George by H.A. and Margaret Rey, and Junie B. Jones by Barbara Park vied for third place, along with two funny titles by Doreen Cronin: Click, Clack Moo! and Duck for President! Thanks to all who participated!

Upcoming Programs

Children ages 21/2-5 (and an adult) will make a holiday, seasonal craft with Liane on Saturday, December 6 at either 9:30 or 10:30a.m. Registration begins Saturday, November 22 at 9:00a.m. in the Children's Room.

Create an edible masterpiece based upon the beloved board game Candyland with Rona Madri on Saturday, December 6 at 1:00 p.m.for children in Grades K-2, and at 2:30p.m. for children in Grades 3-5. Registration begins Saturday, November 22 at 9:00a.m. in the Children's Room.

Family Listening

Will you be travelling during the holiday season? While the family is sitting in the car, use that time to listen to a good book! The Garden City Public Library Children's Department has a large collection of books on CD. We have a wide variety of popular titles, authors and genres for you to check out. New audiobooks include: The Seer of Shadows by Avi, Swindle by Gordon Korman, Waiting for Normal by Leslie Connor, and Encyclopedia Brown Cracks the Case by Donald J. Sobol. There's sure to be an audiobook at the Library that the whole family can enjoy!

Funding for these programs has been provided by the Friends of the Garden City Public Library. Priority for registration and participation is given to children who are Garden City Public Library cardholders.
