Nassau County Programs For Seniors
November: Tax Specialists Needed to Assist With Tax Preparation for Seniors and Low-Income Residents. Training will start soon for volunteers to assist with income tax preparation and application for Earned Income Tax Credit. If you have accounting or bookkeeping experience, this program can use your help to serve the many residents who cannot afford to pay someone to do their tax preparation, and are unable to do it themselves. Last year volunteers assisted more than 2000 residents during the six months the program was in session. Children in Nassau County need Foster Grandparents! If you are age 60 or older. love children, and have the time to volunteer, you will receive a non-reportable stipend, transportation reimbursement, paid holidays, sick days, and vacation days. Employment Referrals: The Nassau County Department of Senior Citizen Affairs is a resource to employers and mature workers, age 55+, who need assistance with employment. Services are free of charge. The Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP), funded under Title V of the Older Americans Act, assists income-eligible individuals who are 55+ and wish to return to work. We provide retraining and assistance in the job search.
