Experience Bethlehem From 2000 Years Ago

2008-11-21 / Community

What was it like 2000 years ago, in Bethlehem, when Jesus was born? What did it sound like? What aromas would you smell? What interesting people might you meet?

Lutheran Church of the Resurrection is setting the stage for an authentic, hands-on experience to visit the ancient village of Bethlehem during the time of the census. The gates to "A Night in Bethlehem" open on Friday, December 19, from 6 to 9 p.m. Resurrection invites families to wander through the streets of what historic Bethlehem may have looked like, an interactive experience at the church, 420 Stewart Ave. in Garden City.

Costumed villagers and shopkeepers will interact with the guests as they visit the bustling village. Guests are invited to walk through the marketplace, chat with the shopkeepers and other craftsmen, smell the baking bread, and imagine life in the ancient town of Bethlehem. You might even see Joseph and Mary and get to ask them about the amazing event that changed their lives.

"A Night in Bethlehem" offers an exciting, interactive evening. Families with children up to grade four-and all ages-will enjoy learning more about the culture, customs, and life in Bethlehem of long ago. Admission is free. Enter on the Emmet Pl. side of the church. For more information, please contact Nathan Erb, 516.746.4426.

Resurrection is a multi-site Christian community of faith. All are invited to worship at 5:30 PM on Saturdays and at 8:30 and 11 AM Sunday mornings, with Christian Education at 9:45 AM at the 420 Stewart Avenue location in Garden City. For more information, please visit www.resgc.org.
