The Girls Varsity Swimming and Diving team capped off a decade of dominance by winning their tenth consecutive county championship this past Saturday at Nassau County Aquatic Center. The victory marked the team's 68th consecutive regular/post season win over the past seven seasons rewarding Coach Anne Sullivan with the school's record for the longest running winning streak in GCHS history. With twenty-seven teams competing, the meet was hard fought with arch rival Long Beach ahead after seven events, 264-248. But the turning point came in the eighth when the girls shaved three seconds off their previous best time to finish first in the 200 freestyle relay and take the lead. With the team's depth in talent the girls held on to outscore Long Beach 449-430 with Sewanhaka placing third with 357 points. Coach Anne Sullivan is truly a master strategist mixing and matching the girls in different events to the team's best advantage. And the girls stepped up their game with 20 best times swum over the course of the meet. Six team members, Megan Zarriello, Sarah Schlichte, Kelly McGrath, Gabby Barcklow, Colleen Logan and Olivia Raimonde qualified for states which will be held in Buffalo on November 21st and 22nd.
