With an undefeated record, the road to the state finals has gone smoothly for Garden City's varsity field hockey team. A 6-1semifinal win over North Shore followed by a 3-0 win in the Nassau Class B final over Manhasset brought the Trojans to Adelphi University for the Long Island championship on Wednesday evening November 5th. It was a rematch of last year's final against the Shoreham Wading River Wildcats.
Eleni Andromidas gave Garden City the 1-0 lead, scoring off a penalty corner at 22:19 in the first half. Eight minutes later, Amanda Keller scored to make it 2-0. Then, off an assist from Lauren Terracciano at 22:57 in the second half, Keller scored again.
Garden City went on to defeat the Wildcats 3-1 to win their fourth straight Long Island Class B field hockey championship. The Trojans advanced to last Saturday's state regional final, where they defeated Putnam Valley 2-1. GC will play in a state semifinal game today at Chittenango High School at 7:30 p.m.
