Thunder 11's Borges Win 1st Round Playoff Game
James "Sully" Sullivan breaking a long run!
It was an unexpectedly beautiful fall afternoon at Stewart Field in Garden City where the Garden City Thunder was preparing to play the Elmont Cardinals in a first round playoff game. The Thunder lost the coin flip and then Justin Samardich recovered a kick that was not fielded correctly by the Cardinals. The Thunder offense took the ball and drove until 4th down when James Sullivan took the toss from Matt Borges and threw a touchdown pass to Brian Colamussi to take a 6 - 0 lead. After the ensuing kickoff, the Elmont Cardinals drove down the field and tied the score at 6. It was now time for the Thunder to take control of the game; the offensive line took control of the line of scrimmage allowing the Thunder running game to take control of the game. The offensive line was led by Conor Muldoon, Justin Holloway, Brian Goulard, Matthew Esposito, Chris Moscatiello, Daniel Krumm, Brian Colamussi, Jack Murtagh, Darius Iraj and Kevin Sprotte. The Thunder ended the first half with a 19 - 6 lead. Elmont kicked off the 2nd half with an onside kick which was recovered by Lucas D'Aversa who recovered 3 onside kicks on the day as well as playing a strong defensive tackle. The Thunder defense was led by Brian Goulard, Lucas D'Aversa, Luke Armstrong, Ben Walsh, Matias Yianatos, Justin Holloway, Thomas Mascola, Chris Repetti, Kevin Sprotte, Justin Samardich, Liam Byrnes, James Sullivan, Brian Colamussi, Colin Castro, Patrick Slovensky and Conor Muldoon. The Thunder offense took the ball to start the 3rd quarter and drove down the field controlling the ball for much of the third quarter before James Sullivan added his second rushing touchdown to his two passing touchdowns! This made the score 26 - 6 and allowed the Thunder to coast to a victory by a margin of 26 - 12 to advance the 11 year old semi finals against a strong Inwood team next Sunday. The Thunder will play Inwood at a neutral field in Farmingdale at a time to be determined. GO THUNDER!!!!!!!
