GC Girl's Rams Lacrosse is a

Travel Program

Please note that the GC Rams Girl's Lacrosse program is a highly competitive travel lacrosse program for grades 3 to 8, requiring both player and parent commitment. Attendance at practices is mandatory. The Lacrosse season officially starts on March 1 and ends on June 30. It is important for both parents and players to understand that by signing up for GC Rams Girls Lacrosse you are committing to making it the primary sport program for the spring season. When participating in more than one travel sport, or lacrosse team, conflicts will occur. We ask that you consider this when registering you daughter to play for the GC Rams. While every effort is made to coordinate practice and game schedules with other sports programs, it is not always possible. Again, Lacrosse is a spring sport and we require that each participant make it their priority for the spring season. Games are played on either Saturday or Sunday and practices are limited to two per week. Missed practices will effect game playing time.

Rule Changes for 2009

US Lacrosse has approved two major rule changes for the 2009 season. The first major change has to do with carding on all grade levels. On the first yellow card (major foul), the player causing the foul will be removed from the game and the team will play short for 3 minutes. The second major has to do with grades 7 & 8, playing under the full checking rules. A check to the head at this level is an automatic red card (game ejection) and suspension from the next game.

Coaching

Requirements

This year the Rams Girl's Lacrosse program will be partnering with the Nassau County PAL Lacrosse Unit and the Long Island Senior Girl's Youth Lacrosse League in developing a Coaching Leadership Program. All members of the Rams Girl's Lacrosse coaching staff will be required to successfully complete either the US Lacrosse Coaching Level I or II program by January 15th in order to coach in the 2009 season. The curriculum is designed to for both the new and experienced coach and will assist in developing an understanding of the game as well as providing effective youth coaching techniques. The content, which has been developed by US Lacrosse, is a computer based on-line program which will be supplemented by an on field coaching workshop provided by US Lacrosse. Dates, times and location will be announced shortly and will be published in the Garden City News.
