Garden City Students Celebrate Book Character Day
These Hemlock students were all smiles as they marched with kindergarten teacher Mrs. Arleen Brown in their building's Halloween Parade.
On October 31st, a quintessential fall day with crystal blue skies and colorful, falling leaves, children from Garden City's primary and elementary schools participated in Book Character Day and Halloween celebrations with costume parades around each of their buildings. Classroom and special area teachers also planned a variety of activities for the day which tied learning across the curriculum to the joys of the season. Children painted pumpkins, created autumnal art works, read stories, and dressed as characters from their favorite books for their building's parade. District parents, cameras in hand, accompanied by the students' younger siblings, many in costume as they watched from strollers, lined the streets around each of the schools to capture the joy on their children's faces as they walked with their classmates in the costume parades. Every character imaginable, from Dr. Seuss to Snow White, made an appearance. For kindergartners, this was their first parade marching as a part of their new school and, judging from their confident smiles, it was a truly joyful experience for all!
Each class of second grade students at Stewart Avenue performed songs for their school's Halloween program, which was attended by parents and classmates.
