On Saturday, September 20, sixth, seventh, and eighth grade German students from the Garden City Middle School participated in the 51st Annual German-American Steuben Parade. More ... The Hofstra University Symphonic Band invited eleven Garden City Middle School students to participate in the 2008 Middle School Honors Band Festival. The festival included students from our district, as well as students from all over Nassau and Suffolk County. Selection for Garden City's Honors Band was made on the basis of student auditions held in late September. More ... Seventh-graders at Garden City Middle School recently studied careers, multiple intelligences, being left or right brained, and what that brain dominance can indicate in terms of careers. Students in Constance Beovich's Family and Consumer Sciences class interviewed adults with interesting careers to learn what each career entails. More ... On Monday, November 10, 2008 four classes from Homestead School took part in a special assembly honoring Captain Sean Thompson from the United States Marine Corp. Garden City's technology staff developer, Mrs. Lauren Maguire, discovered a program online through the History Channel, "Bring a Vet to School," and shared the idea with Homestead teachers. The Early Childhood Students participated in a costume parade on the campus and the school families and guests were invited back to the school that night for the annual Monster Mash. Reading is the cornerstone of success in school, and Cathedral Nursery School (CNS) has a long tradition of fostering a love of reading. Once again, CNS has invited their "graduates" to come back to school and read to the current three and four year old classes. On October 31st, a quintessential fall day with crystal blue skies and colorful, falling leaves, children from Garden City's primary and elementary schools participated in Book Character Day and Halloween celebrations with costume parades around each of their buildings. More ... The children of Garden City Nursery School celebrated Halloween in a big way. The week was filled with pumpkin carving, Halloween songs and poems, special snacks, and of course, plenty of costumes. Children in the three- and four-year old programs came to school all dressed up as their favorite characters. More ... Scott A.
