George Link Olvany
George Link Olvany George Oakman Goldner

George Oakman Goldner of Garden City and Oak Island, North Carolina, passed away on October 7, 2008. Mr. Goldner grew up in Garden City and graduated from Garden City High School in 1964. He attended Hamilton College, and received his BA and MBA degrees from New York University.

Mr. Goldner served on the Garden City Board of Trustees from 1988 to 1990. He is survived by his children George, Matthew and Emily, by Mary Goldner, and by his sister Caroline Ford.

A memorial mass was celebrated at St. Anne's Chuch on October 18.

George Link Olvany

George Link Olvany of Stuart, Florida, formerly of Garden City, died peacefully in Stamford, Connecticut on November 2, 2008 surrounded by his family. He was 84 years old. A Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Joseph's Church in Garden City on November 6, 2008 with Msgr. Edward L. Tarrant a close friend of the family as celebrant.

Born in Patchogue, NY on July 2, 1924 George was raised in Forest Hills, NY prior to moving to Garden City in 1954. He and his wife of 57 years Patricia Johnson Olvany lived and raised their seven children in Garden City for 40 years.

George was employed by Merrill Lynch in Garden City until his retirement in 1993.

He was an active member of St. Joseph's Church in Garden City, The Holy Name Society and a founding member of the Parish Council of St. Joseph's. George was a lifetime member of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick, a member of Lawrence Beach Club, Atlantic Beach NY, The Ocean Club at Hutchinson Island Florida, and a former member of Garden City Golf Club and Cherry Valley Club in Garden City.

George graduated from the University of Notre Dame South Bend, Indiana in 1948. He served four years in the US Navy as a Lieutenant JG and attended Chaminade High School in Mineola NY.

George is survived by his beloved wife Patricia, his seven children Patricia Hodson (Bob), Kathleen Olvany-Riordan (Bob), George (Tricia Murray), John (Kendra Kerr), Annemarie Vierling (Eddie), Stephen (Sharon Cappelli) and Susan Merlini (Peter) and his 20 grandchildren Michael Robert and Molly Patricia Hodson; Brian Olvany Riordan; Sean William, Connor Kerr, Claire Corrigan and Kelly Dee Olvany; George William Jr. and Patrick Thomas Olvany; Alexandra Hope, Brendan Edward and Kevin George Vierling; Kimberly, Kaitlyn, Kelsey and Steven Link Olvany; and Margaret McNally, Kathleen Cavanaugh, Peter Wall and Emma Charlotte Merlini.

George had three core values by which he lived his life - Family, Faith and Friends. He was a gentle man with a kind spirit and quick wit. He enjoyed golf, swimming and Notre Dame Football.
