Five nurses, who form the nucleus of Rotacare, gave a presentation on the increased pervasiveness of medically indigent people in Nassau County and how Rotacare volunteers make a difference.

Rotacare provides medical evaluation, diagnosis and treatment to the uninsured. Their physicians, nurses and support staff are all volunteers. An integral part of their care includes education and counseling with respect to the patient's medical condition, as well as needed medications and counseling as to their use in order to insure the patient's ability to comply with the treatment plan.

The presenters spoke of their respective roles as they relentlessly apply for grants and seek donations of medications from doctors' stock of samples and pharmaceutical companies.

If you would like to make a difference in the life of someone ill and in need by volunteering a few hours of your time, contact Margery Clayton, Rotacare program administrator, at 516-539-9834.
