Shooting Stars Victorious
The GC U10 Shooting Stars have won their last two games against East Meadow and Syosset putting them in strong position to finish near the top of the division in their first year together, with one game remaining.
Against East Meadow, the Shooting Stars won 3-0 behind a strong all around team effort. Meredith Aneser celebrated her birthday by opening the scoring for the Stars. Additional goals were scored by Elizabeth McKay and Bridget Shea in the victory. It was an outstanding game and the Stars superb play was even recognized after the game by the East Meadow coach who forwarded over these comments to our own Coach Ardito:
"After today's game I felt compelled to reach out and compliment you on the game today. I remember our team playing you at Covanta and how nice you and your girls were then. It was again, a pleasure playing your team today.
Many of my parents had compliments on the foot skills and speed your girls displayed, their desire to get the ball, and how well they would execute plays. The breakaway your girls put together for the third goal was beautifully executed, and the foot skills were tremendous. It was a pleasure to watch. The parents also had many compliments for how your team played and I just wanted to forward that to you." A true compliment to the Shooting Stars to receive feedback like that from a tremendous opponent like East Meadow.
This past week the Shooting Stars took on Syosset and won a thrilling game, 3-2. The scoring in the first half was led again by Elizabeth McKay as well as a strong goal by Eileen Farrell. Their goals kept the Stars tied with Syosset in a very intense back and forth game. The Syosset keeper made great save after save on the hard charging offense of Annie Crowley, Julia Foxen and Catherine Lori. In the second half, the Shooting Stars' relentless pressure finally prevailed with a breakthrough game winning goal scored by Bridget Shea on a high lobbing kick. The defense for the Stars was tremendous. Cate Schick did a fantastic job in goal in the 1st half and Caroline Munn took on the call of duty once again as goalie to anchor down the defense to hold off Syosset.
Over the two games, the Stars defense has been spectacular. The anchors on defense have been Caitlin Etienne, Hannah Ardito and Dominique Dragotto. Their strong defensive tactics in forcing players always to the outside and clearing the zone have led to the offensive breakouts which have delivered the goals.
This Shooting Stars wrap up the season with a trip to Rockville Center this Saturday. Good luck Shooting Stars!
