Raynor Sisters Win Again!
For the second time in three years, the Raynor sisters have won the Nassau County tennis doubles. The doubles draw at the Nassau County Championships on October 11-12 had the sister pair of Kelsey and Jacqueline Raynor as the top seed. The girls opened with a first round win against Miller and Paone from Manhasset. The first round was a ten game pro-set with the Raynors winning 10-1. The second and third rounds brought more bad luck for the sisters' opponents. Neither the pair of Mayer and Zloot from Great Neck North nor Tamborino and Bentz from Massapequa took a single game from the girls. Both opponents fell 6-0, 6-0.
The fourth round put the Raynor sisters up against their conference rivals, Bellmore-JFK. With a combination of power, precision and unbelievable quickness at the net, the girls beat the team of Rubin and Ciavarella 6-1, 6-0. This win put them into the finals, having dropped only two games all tournament.
The finals were played against another tough pair from Bellmore-JFK, Amanda Halstrom and Andrea Samlin. The Raynor sisters, who usually play singles during the season, beat both girls in 3 set singles matches earlier in the year, but playing doubles brought a totally new challenge. Kelsey and Jacqueline stayed the course, however, playing incredible tennis. They won 6-0, 6-3 to become the 2008 Nassau County Doubles Champions. The next step for the Raynor sisters is to represent Nassau County in the state tournament November 7-10th in Syracuse, New York. The girls will try to top the third and second place finish they achieved at the states championship for the past two years.
