Waldorf Students Named To All-State Conference
(L-R): Seniors Peter Olynciw and Miranda Geraci-Yee.
The Waldorf School of Garden City is proud to announce that two high school seniors, Miranda Geraci-Yee and Peter Olynciw, have been named, respectively, to the All State String Orchestra and the All State Symphony Orchestra at the 73rd Annual Winter 2008 All-State Music Conference of the New York State School Music Association (NYSSMA). This year's conference will take place between December 4th and 7th in Rochester, New York.
Students throughout the state audition in the spring for the opportunity to perform in All-State music ensembles with top students selected from throughout the state. The students will participate in an intense rehearsal schedule during the NYSSMA conference and perform in concerts at the end of the conference at the Eastman Theater at the Eastman School of Music.
"This is an exciting high level performance opportunity for Peter and Miranda," said Waldorf's Orchestra Director Susan Lehr. "They have worked very hard and I am delighted to see them rewarded for their effort. I know this will be a great experience for them!"
Miranda began her harp studies at the Manhattan School of Music (MSM) Pre-College Program at the tender age of eight. In addition to studying harp with well known harpist Alyssa Reit, Miranda also plays in the MSM Symphony Orchestra conducted by James Sadewhite and the school's harp ensemble. She had her professional debut at the age of thirteen with the Westchester Mentoring Orchestra at Alice Tully Hall. Last year, Miranda was accepted to the NYSSMA Long Island All County Festival orchestra. In addition to being the Long Beach Historical Society's "resident" harpist, Miranda has played in countless recitals, benefit performances and professional engagements.
An accomplished bass player, Peter is the principal bassist for the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra's Principal Orchestra and attends the Pre-College Jazz Program at the Manhattan School of Music. He also plays electric bass at a local church, performs with a local high school jazz combo and participates in the Friends of the Arts Community Performance. Peter plans to pursue a music performance degree in college.
