GC Thunder 7s Take On The Bellmore Braves
Another big stop on defense
The Thunder 7s of team Moscatiello played their final home game of the 2008 season this week at Stewart Field. Coming off a tough game the boys had practiced all week with the determination of champions. This week's opponent were the Braves from Bellmore. Wearing their black pants, white jerseys and black helmets the Braves came ready to play. However our Thunder boys in our home maroon jerseys and white pants with white helmets were ready to rumble. It was a crisp fall morning with the sun shining down on the field as the captains from both teams took the field for the opening coin toss for a 9:00am start.
The defense played an outstanding game looking like the 1985 Chicago Bears playing the famed Buddy Ryan 46 defense. As Mike Ditka said before the '86 Super Bowl "There are teams that are fair-haired, and those that aren't so fair-haired. Some teams are named Smith, some Grabowski. We're Grabowskis. Our Grabowskis went toe to toe against the Braves the entire game. The line of TJ Schmitt, Joey Atherall, Campbell Munn, Steven Moscatiello, Christian Genussa, Brian "Big Bri" Boland, Kyle "Hit Man" Merritts and Steven "Hammer" Haass played aggressive smash mouth football giving the Braves all they can handle from the opening whistle.
Student body right
With the defensive line clogging up the interior, Bellmore's only option was to take to the outside. However with Brady Sullivan, Harry "Primetime" Murphy, Nicky Rosato and Jackson Bautch playing at the linebacker, safety and cornerback positions there was little room for the opponent to go.
When our defense was done shutting down the Bellmore offense it came time for the vaunted GC Thunder offense to take the field. Renowned for its black and blue, 3 yards and a cloud of dust play the Thunder stuck with this approach. It was a battle all game long as Bellmore was aggressive off the ball but our boys did not give up. Firing off low and hard and driving their feet until the whistle blew were lineman Reece "Reece man" Hungerford, Albert "Bulldozer" Severini, Angelo Demiris, Timmy "The Anvil" Curran, Aidan Pfaff, and Kevin Leblanc. These boys were opening up running lanes for our backfield which consisted of Stephan Baymack, Tyler Sandoval and Joseph "2 Touchdown" Scattareggia.
Getting ready for a big play
With Collin Plunkett expected back from the injured reserve this week, the team is will be at full strength for our last game of the season. On Sunday November 2nd our boys will travel south to take on the Bulldogs of Long Beach at Long Beach Middle School for a 9:00am start.
Each week these boys continue to learn more about the sport of football, being teammates and having fun, come see the boys finish up their first season as it promises to be an exciting game!
Go Thunder!!!!
