Valley Stream North's record was 12-3-1 and Garden City's was 3-3-6 but you would never have known it by watching these two teams play in the first round of the Nassau Class A boys soccer playoffs on October 25th. Maybe being the underdog was a good thing for the Trojans because they came out playing hard. The offense was able to break through the VSN defense and put pressure on goalkeeper Danny Heaphy a number of times. The Trojans defense was able to hold off any scoring which led to a 0-0 tie at the end of regulation and sudden death overtime.
Just two minutes into overtime, Mike DiMasso put in the rebound off Vin Chiodo's shot for the game winner giving Garden City the 1-0 victory. This win advances the Trojans to the quarterfinal game against Roslyn on October 29th that occurred too late for this edition.
