Thunder Maroon 8s Stop Floral Park
Patrick Leggett makes a big stop
The Thunder Maroon 8s improved to 5-1 with a hard fought 12-0 shutout over Floral Park this week. It was the Maroons 3rd shutout of the season. The starting defensive line of Sal Ingrassia, Liam Widell, Liam Glynn, Tommy Siler, Joey Ostapow and Patrick Leggett controlled the line of scrimmage while linebackers Brian Greene and Kyle Steinbach ran down any runners that managed to get thru the line. The secondary of Aidan Griffin, Peter Cannizzaro and Stephen Calouri patrolled the outside and limited Fl Park to any big gains. Kyle Steinbach and Patrick Leggett had especially great days bringing down Floral Park runners on numerous occassions. Twice Kyle ran down breakaway backs preserving the shutout. On offense Cole Dutton repeatedly handed off to running backs, Kieran Paskewitz, Matt Desimplicis, Sean Leggett, Will Honan and Matt Flanagan for hard nose up the middle runs. The thunder offense chewed up big gains inside which left the outside open for Andrew DeSantis, who was good for two scores. Sean Leggett added one extra point with a great off dive run. No player can score without solid up front blocking and as usual, Mark Michon, Michael Liberoplous, Chris Calouri, James Buckley and Jack Dignam were all up to task. The thunder offense has been virtually unstoppable behind these boys all season, moving the ball easily against bigger competition. The Thunder play Franklin Square (4-2) this sunday in what shapes up to be a great contest.
