Gabby Rogers wins the ball and attacks... The Garden City Wildcats got back on track last Saturday with a convincing 4-0 defeat over the Levittown Xtreme. After a very competitive match the week before at Albertson, the Wildcats were back in action at St. Paul's where they have outscored opponents by a 22-6 margin and built an impressive unbeaten streak this season.

Captain Marlee Rich and crew got right to business in front of first half goalkeeper Megan Seel and established their possession game. Defenders Kelly Donovan, Gabriella Rogers and Maggie Casey did a great job of winning the ball ahead of attacking players and playing the ball up the sidelines or through the middle to unmarked teammates. Chances for either side were few in the opening minutes but as GC established control of the ball, their speed took over against the Xtreme defense. Kelly George unleashed a shot from her wing position aiming for the far side of the opposing goal but the Xtreme goalkeeper made a nice save to deflect the ball aside giving GC a corner. Unable to convert on that opportunity, the girls regrouped and mounted another attack as Jacqui Brattan, Devon Heaney and Kate Farrell came calling. It was Brattan finishing her own rebound that put GC on top 1-0. The only harrowing moment for the Wildcats came on a shot from some distance that deflected off the crossbar above Seel. As the ball came down, Seel corralled it preventing any further stress. Kelly George, Celia Concannon and Emma Wieland possessed the ball for long periods along with Talyor Gladd and Maggie Casey. Concannon, ahead of her mark all game long did a marvelous job of carrying the ball; demonstrating skill in carving through the defense for a couple of fine chances at the net. Wieland showed skills as well in carrying the ball to the opposing corner and crossing the ball to Farrell for a shot which was deflected into the goal by an Xtreme defender giving GC a 2-0 lead. Megan Seel did had a nice 2nd half playing in the center of the field and threading some nice passes to her teammates. Captain Marlee and her defensive mates continued to limit the scoring chances and it was the girls' speed on defense as well as fine communication from each other on this silent sideline soccer Saturday (say that fast 4 times!), which also contributed to time of possession which clearly favored the Wildcats. Kate Farrell scored again in the second half timing her run nicely with a one touch finish off a well placed cross from Wieland. Taylor Gladd rounded out the scoring with another one touch finish from a gorgeous pass from the far corner by Wieland.
