The Force had a weekend to remember at Windsor! The girls began the weekend on Saturday with two well-played close games, but the day ended with the Force's record at 0-2. On Sunday, the girls were determined to change that and the Force came out strong and never let up. Each and every member of the team contributed to Force winning both games, and heading to Monday with a 2-2 record. More ... GC Boys U9 Pre Travel continued their winning ways this past Sunday at St. Paul's. At their second home game of the season, the boys took on Massapequa and came away with yet another victory. The team has been training hard with Rocco Morelli and staff since late August, and their fans can see the improvement in their skills each week. More ... Following an impressive tournament in Windsor, Connecticut, the Boys U-11 Raiders continued their winning ways with back-to-back league wins, against talented teams from Floral Park and Syosett. The Raiders bested Floral Park, 2 to 0, on October 18th, and Syosett, 3 to 2, on October 25th, allowing the Raiders to continue their march up N-3 League leaderboard. More ... On Saturday, October 25th the Garden City Patriettes U12 girls' soccer team played the Brentwood Angels at St. Paul's in an early morning contest. With grey skies and extremely windy conditions, the girls faced an important league game as both teams were tied in the Division 4 standings. More ... The Garden City Wildcats got back on track last Saturday with a convincing 4-0 defeat over the Levittown Xtreme. After a very competitive match the week before at Albertson, the Wildcats were back in action at St. Paul's where they have outscored opponents by a 22-6 margin and built an impressive unbeaten streak this season. More ... On an overcast and windy day, the U12 Xtreme traveled to Pelini Park in Levittown to face the Levittown Panthers. The Xtreme had never beaten the division one powerhouse Panthers in three tries. But on this day, the team overcame two deficits and stunned the Panthers with a 3-2 victory. More ... With a 4-0 loss to them in the Covanta Cup Tournament in mind, the Warriors went into this past weekend's game against the Lindenhurst Tidalforce not just with the intent to avenge the loss, but to show to themselves how far they have come since that time in late August. By the end of the game, they accomplished both goals. More ... Last Sunday the Thunder 7s welcomed the high flying Farmingdale Hawks into the unfriendly confines of Stewart School Field. A crisp fall day was the stage for what would turn out to be an epic battle. Captains Jack Ryan, Paul Varano, and Sean Tariche led the Thunder on the field for the opening coin toss. Farmingdale won the toss and elected to defer. More ... The Thunder 8's season to date had been primarily spent on the road, with the first four of five games being played in opposing teams towns. So it was great to finally play a home game in front of friends and families in the familiar confines of Stewart Field. The anticipation of the pizza party, I mean game, was the focus of the Thunder 8 boys on this cool fall afternoon. More ... The Thunder 7s of team Moscatiello played their final home game of the 2008 season this week at Stewart Field.Coming off a tough game the boys had practiced all week with the determination of champions. This week's opponent were the Braves from Bellmore. Wearing their black pants, white jerseys and black helmets the Braves came ready to play. More ... The Thunder Maroon 8s improved to 5-1 with a hard fought 12-0 shutout over Floral Park this week. It was the Maroons 3rd shutout of the season. More ... It was a gorgeous fall afternoon at Stewart Field in Garden City where the Garden City Thunder was preparing to play the 4th place playoff bound Farmingdale Hawks. The Thunder lost the coin flip and after that did not lose another thing! Farmingdale started with the ball and ran approximately 8 plays before turning it over on downs to the GC Thunder. More ... This past weekend Garden City's up and coming swimmers competed at the first annual Long Beach Invitational. The girls had an outstanding showing with four first place finishes: Kristin Noonan, Jacqueline Vani, Marie Cristoforo, Devon Ialenti (200 Medley Relay), Lindsey Schlichte (200 IM), Laura Melone (500 Freestyle) and Dierde McGrath (100 Breastroke). More ... It was the Trojans against the Spartans as Elmont's JV football team traveled to Garden City on Saturday morning October 25th. With 3:00 left in the first quarter, Elmont scored first and took the 6-0 lead but was unable to complete the two point conversion.It wasn't until the end of the second quarter that the Trojans were able put a rally together. More ... Garden City faced Hewlett in the girl's soccer Class A first round playoff game on a beautiful, sunny, Friday afternoon October 24th at GCHS. GC's Jenna Zarou opened the scoring in the 13th minute, knocking in a loose ball created by Erin Donnelly. More ... Valley Stream North's record was 12-3-1 and Garden City's was 3-3-6 but you would never have known it by watching these two teams play in the first round of the Nassau Class A boys soccer playoffs on October 25th. Maybe being the underdog was a good thing for the Trojans because they came out playing hard. More ... The Garden City Recreation Department will conduct a Women's Platform Tennis Round Robin Program on Wednesday evenings. This program will begin on Wednesday, November 19th and will be held in two sessions in which the registrant has a choice of either Session I from 7 to 8:30 p.m. or Session II from 8:30 to 10 p.m. There will be a maximum of 4 players per court. More ... Garden City's girls soccer team faced Hewlett in the first round of the Class A playoffs on October 24th at GCHS. Garden City won the game 4-1. Top-seeded Elmont and second-seeded Garden City were expected to play a close, competitive game last Saturday and that is just what the capacity Homecoming crowd at Elmont saw. Both teams ran 49 plays and rushed 32 times. One first down separated the teams and Elmont wound up with a small edge in total yards, 287 to 265. More ...
