The main part of the weekend was camping and preparing a traditional thanksgiving meal. The boys prepared and cooked under the direction of adult Scout leaders. It was a true feast. Two turkeys were cooked in garbage cans using good old Scout smarts. Breads were cooked in a cardboard box oven. Side dishes were cooked in dutch ovens over hot coals. Working by patrols, the boys assembled the ingredients and prepared the food to cook on the coals. After a long and vigorous game of football, the scouts worked up a healthy appetite. The feast consisted of turkey, gravy, cranberries, stuffing, cornbread, string bean casserole, baked potatoes, sweet potatoes, corn pudding, and other delights with names you would not recognize! For desert, there was apple cobbler, grilled apples and raisins with cinnamon and other treats buried under whipped cream. Approximately 14 scouts and 6 dads enjoyed the traditional dinner served buffet style in the Scout dining hall. The Scouts prepared, cooked (and cleaned up!) a great meal, and learned a great deal about cooking in the great outdoors with no appliances or ovens. After a few hours of manhunt, some scouts were still seen eating cookies beside the campfire before calling it a night. The weekend out east also included hiking and orienteering activities. Scout in attendance included: Zach L., Scott L., Danny S., Drew B., Casey T., Adam P., Jack A., Ryan G., Jack K., Brendan F., Frank S., Ian S., Alex H., and Patrick M.
