The Cathedral of the Incarnation will be conducting a Giant Sale on Saturday, November 1 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. There are many new and gently used treasures to be found. Items include house wares, glassware, dishes, books, small appliances, framed art work, toys, holiday decorations and beautiful and unusual bric-a brac. The sale will be held at The Cathedral House at 50 Cathedral Avenue, Garden City. Come and browse and find something you have always wanted or needed. Proceeds from the sale will be used to restore and maintain the Cathedral which is a magnificent building of local historic interest. Then, Leonard Meiselman will present "Art Cries Out: The Art of Protest." From the Holocaust and Hiroshima to Iraq and Darfur, this talk will explore the role of the arts and artists in American culture, including painting, photography, video documentary and theatre arts in response to violence, war and genocide. The presentation will take place at 11 a.m. at the Ethical Humanist Society of LI, located, 38 Old Country Rd. There is no fee and all are invited to attend. For more information call 741-7304.... On that same day, at 3 p.m., Tom Phelan will be the featured guest at Author Afternoons at Molloy College, hosted by Molloy's writer-in-residence, Barbara Novack. The college is located at 1000 Hempstead Ave., Rockville Centre. Phelan is the author of many novels, including The Canal Bridge.He has recently completed a new novel, Nailer, about a man set on revenge, set against the backdrop of Ireland's abusive industrial schools and the collusion between state and church. Phelan, a retired employee of the Garden City Public Schools, was born and raised in Ireland. Between October 24 and 27, someone entered a Ford Ranger parked at Huntington Rd. and took a nail gun and DeWalt drill valued at $750...On October 24, a bicycle seat and wheel were stolen off a bicycle locked and chained at the Merillon Ave. RR station...On October 25, between 12:15 and 12:30 p.m. , unknown persons took lawn equipment; a mower, edger and blower, worth over $1500, at a St. James Street North residence...PO Oswald arrested a 29-year-old Locust Valley man for alleged DWI (.12%) and for no insurance, at Clinton Rd., on October 26, at 6:30 p.m...A 4600 Dell laptop computer was stolen from Blodgett Hall, Adelphi University, on October 22... On the same day, PO Marceda and PO Edwards arrested a 44-year-old Bethpage man at a GC address after he allegedly threatened to kill his girlfriend following a dispute over his use of her car. The man was charged with menacing and the unauthorized use of a vehicle...Detectives Rothermel and Madden stopped a 19-year-old Farmingdale male for a defective brake light at Eleventh Street on October 24 at 12:13 a.m. and charged the teen with the possession of a controlled substance (Xanax) and for the unlawful possession of marijuana...Police responded to the call for a potential burglary in progress at a Whitehall Blvd. house on October 23, 4 p.m., and found 4 people in the house who evidently were allowed to be there. However, 2 males from Mineola, a 23-year-old and a 22-year-old, were arrested for the possession of marijuana... Police responded to the call for a fight occurring outside a Meadow Street residence on October 25, 11 p.m. PO Rothermel arrested a 17-year-old male for disorderly conduct and loud behavior, and PO Madden arrested a 19-year-old Hempstead male after the teen had pointed a 13" kitchen knife at him before running away from police. The teen was charged with the criminal possession of a weapon and for menacing a police officer...

Two water cans were used to extinguish a small rubbish fire at 501 Stewart Avenue on October 24... The LIRR was notified of a small fire near the third rail at the Nassau Blvd. RR station on October 25... LIPA was notified of a sparking transformer at 35 Euston Rd. on the same day...
