Michaela and Kerry
Michaela and Kerry Fresh off their sheer domination performance and first place win in Windsor over Columbus day weekend, those amazing U-11 players from the Garden City Flash rested up on Saturday with a bye in their Division One league schedule and prepared to take on North Babylon Sunday evening in a State Cup match. Once again, the Flash rose to the occasion as they prevailed over their Suffolk County opponents by a score of 5-1 as they advance to the Quarter Finals.

Kerry Defliese scored two goals and Katie Muldoon had a hat trick scoring the remaining three goals. Great offensive support was also given by Emily O'Neill, Katherine Galzerano, Nicole Leto, Isabel Klatt, Michaela Bruno and of course Julia McGuire. Each of them are talented and unselfish players who read each other and make great things happen on the field.

Net keeping by Nicole Derby and Nicole Leto was as spectacular as ever. No matter how many goals a team scores, fewer have to go in their own net to win the game. These two goalies were rock solid game in this State Cup game and throughout the season.

That's Katherine with a K
That's Katherine with a K Of course, no matter how many goals you score or how incredible your goalies perform, no team would be a success without meticulous defenders. Such is certainly the case with the Flash. Tianna Biscone just never quits with her finesse and agility forcing turnovers before she hits the turbo button with her speed and passes at precisely the right time. Chloe Stapleford stops strikers in their track, breaks away and sends the ball up-field as thought it was shot from a cannon time and time again. Nicole Derby has the same confidence breaking up offensive plays as she does when she is in goal. The beauty of this team is also in its versatility.

The Midfield players likewise mad valuable contribution both offensively and defensively. Kelly Aneser was on her game as were Klatt, Bruno, McGiuire and Derby when called upon to bridge the gap. Coach Galzerano has the flexibility to interchange his players who can adapt from offense to defense without interrupting the team chemistry. The word is that Grace Cameron should be back on the field soon as the crutches are gone and she was pacing the sidelines on her own two feet.

Tianna Turnover
Tianna Turnover But for a minor hiccup in a narrow loss to Massapequa before the Columbus Weekend break, the Flash has had what can best be described as a Cinderella season, or rather Cinderella with cleats. They are talented, spirited, smart and pretty darn cute too! Go Flash!
