Thunder Offense driving the ball
Thunder Offense driving the ball It was a sunny but blustery fall afternoon at Coes Neck Park where the Garden City Thunder was warming up to play the Baldwin Bombers. The first half was a defensive battle where both defenses really controlled the game for both teams. Baldwin threw everything at us including a no huddle hurry up offense which our boys met the challenge. There were some great defensive plays by both teams but especially by the Thunder. Justin Samardich made one of the biggest plays of the day chasing down a Bomber after about a 30 yard gain and causing a fumble that was recovered by Brian Colamussi stopping a late second quarter drive. The half would end with neither team putting any points on the board leaving the score the same as the start of the game, 0 - 0! The Thunder defense was led by Brian Goulard, Lucas D'Aversa, Luke Armstrong, Ben Walsh, Matias Yianatos, Justin Holloway, Kevin Sprotte, Justin Samardich, Liam Byrnes, James Sullivan, Brian Colamussi, Colin Castro, Patrick Slovensky and Matt Borges. The second half started with the vaunted Thunder defense taking the field and picking up right where they finished the first half, shutting down the Baldwin offense. After a couple of possessions with the defenses controlling the game again, the Thunder QB Matt Borges came to the sidelines and suggested an I Right 21 dive to Liam Byrnes because he saw a hole in the defense. The Thunder offense ran the play and the offensive line blew Baldwin off the ball and Liam was off to the races, 65 yards to the 1 yard line where James Sullivan followed our big boys up front for the touchdown! Thunder 6, Baldwin 0! Our powerful offense is led by our big boys up front, Conor Muldoon, Darius Iraj, Justin Holloway, Brian Goulard, Matt Esposito, Chris Mosciatiello, Daniel Krumm, Kevin Sprotte, and Jack Murtagh. It was at this point that our offense really took control of the game and continued to drive the boys from Baldwin off the ball making big holes for our running backs. The Thunder would score one more touchdown to put the game out of reach giving our boys a well deserved and hard fought victory 12 - 0 against a very good Baldwin team. Our next game is Sunday October 26 at home against a very good Farmingdale team at 12:00. GO THUNDER!!!!!!!
