Sparks Repeat As Champs At Windsor Tournament

Playing in the top division for their age group, the Sparks repeated their success from last year, again taking first place with a 5-0 record. The Sparks outscored their opponents 17-0 during the tournament. Scoring for the Sparks were Kayla Murphy, Shannon Callahan, Annie Blanco, Katherine Malhame, Haley O'Hanlon, Erin Connelly, Caroline Beaty and Sabrina Rodgers. Emma Gallagher, Kate DeMarco and Sarah Rubino controlled the midfield and defensive zones, keeping their opponents away from keepers Kaitlyn Gorman and Taylor Carpentier. Injured teammate Lauren Mixon was there to cheer the Sparks on. The girls also had a great time off the field, enjoying a team dinner at a local restaurant, watching a beauty pageant at the team's hotel, and getting together with several other teams at a Sunday evening party.
Sparks enjoy grilled hot dogs between games with team chef John Gallagher Following the Windsor tournament, the Sparks resumed league play in Long Island Division One on October 19, taking on the Middle Country Magic at St. Paul's. Annie Blanco opened the scoring, giving the Sparks a 1-0 lead midway through the first half. Middle Country tied the score in the second half, and the teams then battled for control as time ran down. With under a minute to go, Caroline Beaty was taken down inside the box and converted the ensuing penalty kick to give the Sparks a hard-fought 2-1 victory. The Sparks are now 4-2 in league play.
