A Blast From The Garden City Power
U-12 Girls Travel
Soccer Team
The Garden City Power Girls Travel Soccer Team has been very busy these days both training and competing. Recently, over the Columbus Day weekend the team participated in the Windsor Soccer Tournament in Windsor, Connecticut. The girls and their families traveled to Connecticut ready to play. The weekend was filled with great playing, team spirit and plenty of team support. There were a total of five games played that weekend and each time the Power played they put out their best effort. Over all the girls played well and Coaches Lavaune Gong and Joanne Silk were extremely proud of the Power. The parents and siblings were there to cheer the team on. The weather couldn't have been better. The skies were blue each day and the sun was shining all weekend long. When the team wasn't on the field there was time for some Fall fun. Thanks to our Coaches and weekend coordinators Mrs. Joan Schmidt and Mrs. Hikaru MacLeod the weekend ran smoothly without any difficulties. They planned a lovely weekend filled with fun for the players and their families. The Team and their families participated in a Fall Harvest at The Easy Pickin's Farm in Enfield Connecticut. The group enjoyed a hay ride and picked apples, pumpkins and berries. Everyone came home with lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. In addition, the girls enjoyed a night of fun, food and games at Nomads. The girls played Laser tag, rock climbed, played miniature golf and enjoyed other fun filled activities all weekend long. A great time was had by all.
This past weekend the Power returned to Garden City and took on the Valley Stream Heat at their home field. The girls were hoping to keep their magic alive! The Power has been playing very competitively and came to this game with no league losses. The first half was a bit challenging and the girls soon realized that it was time to turn up the POWER! Early in the second half the Power came out aggressive and strong and determined to come home with a win. The score was 2 - 1 with the Heat in the lead and the Power was trying hard to tie it up. With little time left on the clock the girls demonstrated some strong offense and equally as strong defense. Time ran out and the Heat took the game 2-1. Our defense was resilient and our goalies were alert keeping the shots on goal to a bare minimum. The Power was disappointed but will come back next week with their continued competitive spirit and determination to play their very best. After the game the team went to watch a women's college soccer game at Adelphi University and closed down their busy day with a pizza party at Grimaldi's. This coming weekend the Power will take on the Manhasset Meteors with a home team advantage. We are all proud of you girls and keep up the great work and awesome team spirit. Way to Go...
