Thunderbolts Edge Plainedge
Coach Metzlers U-14 Garden City Thunderbolts came out strong last Sunday against Plainedge at the Community Park and found themselves ahead by a score of 2-0 early in the first half. This was even more impressive since the team had been plagued with injuries and had a very limited bench. Plainedge fought back valiantly and seized upon a few Thunderbolt errors to take the lead with three unanswered goals putting the Garden City home team behind by a score of 3-2 in the second half.
It looked fairly bleak from the sidelines and Plainedge probably counted the "W" a bit too soon. With determination, skill, unity and inexplicable stamina, the Thunderbolts kept their cool and outplayed the visiting team with fervor as they tied the game and then scored a go-ahead goal for a 4-3 win. In his message to the team, Coach Metzler expressed how proud he was of the boys as they came back to win the game on a "tough blustery day, down to eleven guys, many playing out of their usual positions, down 3-2 in the second half." Coach further commented that the boys "didn't fold their tents, that's for sure!" What a great comeback! Go Thunderbolts.
