A Word From The Publisher

2008-10-24 / Letters

As is evidenced by the bright colored leaves and pumpkins everywhere, Halloween will be here next Friday. Although the change from daylight savings time won't take place for another few weeks, the days are getting shorter and it is already fully dark by only 6 p.m. Since this year Halloween falls on a Friday, it is likely that the little ghouls and ghosts will be out later than usual, so please be especially careful driving that night.

Parents, if your child is going out in the evening hours, make sure they are wearing clothing that is visible at night, and that their masks don't obscure their vision.

Teens, please keep the night safe for everyone, and be nice and respect people's property. It's okay to go out and get a silly with your friends (and eat way too much sugar) but please don't trash people's decorations. Several times in the past few years we have heard of little kids' pumpkins being destroyed by vandals. Don't be mean — have a good time, but don't ruin someone else's celebration.

Happy Halloween!
