Chamber Hears Suozzi On Property Taxes, County Budget

"This is still a great place to live. We've got to continue to keep it great and think how to make it better,"Tom Suozzi said."This is still a great place to live. We've got to continue to keep it great and think how to make it better,"Tom Suozzi said. Referring to the intensity of our current tough economy at the Chamber's season kick-off luncheon at the Garden City Hotel on September 24, County Executive Tom Suozzi addressed in detail property taxes, the County budget and economic development, as well as Garden City's standing as one of Nassau's "cool downtowns." Suozzi, who serves as chairman of the State Commission on Property Tax Relief, stated that going forward there are only three choices; reduce expenses or reduce the rate of growth of expense via a tax cap (preferred); increase the State Aid; or continue to pay for the schools by continuing to increase property taxes at their current rate (least preferred). the bottom line, he said, is "this is still a great place to live. We've got to continue to keep it great and to think of ways to make it better."
