John Cannizzo, speaker at the Community Club pictured with his children. On October 29 th at 1:30 p.m. at the Garden City Casino, the Americanism/Current Events Department of the Community Club will present John Cannizzo, director of the Horticultural Society of New York's Green Team re-entry program for ex-offenders from the prison at Riker's Island.

Mr. Cannizzo was also instrumental in developing The Greenhouse Project at the jail, which offers prisoners serving short term sentences, hope and a new life when they leave jail. Inmates receive horticultural training both in the garden and the classroom. When they are released they are offered paid internships with the Horticultrual Society plus job counseling and a placement program for full time jobs.

A veteran of the Peace Corps and a graduate of the School of Visual Arts, Mr. Cannizzo is an avid believer in experiential education and community service.
