Come And "Make A Difference" At Bird Sanctuary!
You are never too young to help plant a spring flowering bulb
Come and participate in the National Day of volunteer community service at the Garden City Bird Sanctuary on Saturday October 25! Volunteers are welcomed any time between 10am and 4pm to prune, weed, and plant and get our local 9 acre village nature preserve set for next Spring. Thanks to New York State Assemblyman Tom McKevitt, the first 75 volunteers will receive a free "Make A Difference" T-shirt. The goal this day is to plant 2000 spring flowering bulbs, so please bring bulbs and tools & gloves if you can. The Bird sanctuary also has a good assortment of tools and gloves available if you need to borrow them to help out. Spend a couple of hours at the Sanctuary, and enjoy a walk along the trails. At 2PM, the Bird Sanctuary will be honoring Thomas Slattery, winner of the 2008 6th grade Environmental Essay Competition, and also Frank and Kris Harder, recipients of the Garden City Bird Sanctuary 2008 Environmental stewardship Award for their long term dedication and support of the bird sanctuary. Their support helped make "Sump-thing" wonderful out of the Nassau County stormwater basin on Tanners Pond Road. Parking is available on Tanners Pond Road, and the main access gate is opposite 181 Tanners Pond Road. Last friday, a brownie troop helped plant nearly 150 dafodill bulbs by one of the River Birch Trees donated by Harder Trees last Spring.
