On Saturday, October 18, The Irish American Society will hold a Ceili at 297 Willis Avenue, Mineola to begin 8 p.m. Donation is $15 and will feature Pete Kelly's Premier Ceili Band. North Hempstead Town will hold its Annual Spooky Walk until Friday, Oct. 24 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Admission is $5. Ghosts, ghouls, goblins, swamp monsters and their gruesome buddies will prowl the grounds of Clark Botanic Garden in Albertson, 193 I.U. Willets Road, Albertson. This year the town will be incorporating a Dark Knight theme to the spooky walks. Keep your eyes open (or closed) for The Joker, Batman, scary clowns and more. It's only Rock 'n Roll will perform on Oct. 24. A Not-So-Spooky Walk will be held on Oct. 25 from noon to 5 p.m. Admission is $3. On Monday, November 10, Long Island Jewish Medical Center's "Look Good, Feel Better" support group for women coping with the physical effects of radiation and chemotherapy will meet from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. at LIJ's Oncology Conference Room, C-Level, Oncology Building, 270-05 76th Ave., New Hyde Park. Professional cosmetologists will provide techniques, including make-up and skin care, as well as offer advice about scarves, turbans and hats. Police Report: Mischief and Mayhem
On October 15, someone stole a laptop computer valued at $1500 at Adelphi University... On October 17, a 26-year-old female and a 35-year-old female acting in consort stole items valued over $622 at Lord and Taylor. There were also in possession of burglar tools... On October 19, at Franklin Avenue, PO K. Wehr arrested a 37-year-old Freeport man for alleged DWI (.14%), alleged speeding at 50 in a 30, unsafe lane change, expired inspection, while PO Oswald observed another vehicle traveling allegedly too slowly there. That motorist, a 31-year-old man from Freeport, was also arrested for alleged DWI (.19%), aggravated DWI, unsafe lane change, unlicensed operation, driving too slowly, and for equipment violations...On October 17, PO Florio answered a noise complaint at Kilburn Rd./Newmarket Road, and issued a ticket to an 18-year-old GC male who was in possession of an open can of beer, for the violation of the ABC law ... On October 14, Detective Madden and Sergeant Grimes, arrested a 16-year-old Hempstead male in connection with a robbery that occurred on October 10, where police arrested 2 other suspects for taking money and a cell phone from a victim traveling on his bicycle... A 40-year-old New Cassel woman, a 25-year-old Westbury woman, and a 26-year-old Westbury man, allegedly took merchandise valued at $90 and fled Pay/half, Franklin Avenue, on October 9. A short time later, police made the arrests in Westbury... Detective Madden arrested 2 people at NHP Road on October 15. After an investigation, a 44-year-old Queens Village woman was arrested for selling alleged heroin/cocaine, and a 34-year-old Ozone Park man was arrested for the criminal sale and possession of a controlled substance ( heroin/cocaine), and tampering with evidence by attempting to swallow the alleged heroin...Between October 14 and 15, somone stole a car radio from a 1988 Volkswagen parked on Willow Street...Between October 10 and 15, someone took a $2500 Thinkpad laptop computer at a GC Plaza office... Credit cards, personal papers, and $50 were removed from a handbag at a faculty office at Adelphi University on October 15... That same day, a truck stop was held at Franklin Avenue. 12 trucks were inspected, with 20 tickets issued,; 1 for overweight, and 1 truck taken out of service...

Natural ventilation was used to clear smoke after a microwave fire occurred at South Avenue on October 13...FD disconnected the electric to a light ballast at a Franklin Avenue location on October 15...A plate of food with paper towels was too close to gas stove top burners and caused a small fire at a Butler Place residence on the same day. Luckily the fire self-extinguished before firemen arrived and natural ventilation was used...On October 17, the FD shut off the electric to an elevator at Franklin Avenue...On October 20, a carbon monoxide detector malfunctioned at a Euston Rd. address... FD used a 1 3/4 hand line to extinguish a fire in the basement of a house at Tremont St. on October 20. An investigation continues as to the cause of the fire...A tree rubbed near a pole causing arcing at Herricks Rd. on October 21...
