Special Appearance At Adelphi Music Gala
Adelphi University's Music Department announces with great pride and anticipation the appearance of superlative pianist Simon Mulligan as soloist in Beethoven's "Emperor" Concerto at the upcoming music gala concert on October 25 and at the preview concert on October 24. Mr. Mulligan will be performing as a last moment replacement for the Australian pianist Geoffrey Tozer. Mr. Tozer's solo piano recital, originally scheduled for Tuesday October 28, has been canceled.
Described by The Times of London as 'the most abundantly gifted of pianists', Mr. Mulligan performs and records internationally as a soloist and chamber musician. His recent recording of Beethoven sonatas will soon be released on Sony Masterworks. His previous solo album for Sony Classical, "Piano" won great acclaim throughout Europe, South America and the Far East, and featured in various television, radio, and internet campaigns. He has recorded more than fifteen discs, including performances of Martinu's Triple Concerto (conducted by Menuhin), Rosza's Spellbound Concerto with the BBC Symphony conducted by Slatkin, Mussorgsky's Pictures At An Exhibition, his own Suite for Piano and Orchestra, and the Nocturnes of Chopin. In recent months he recorded the complete Beethoven piano sonatas for Sony Classical at the Fazioli Concert Hall in Italy, and is closely associated with the Gala guest of honor, the piano's creator Paolo Fazioli.
