Village Hall Moves Closer To ADA Compliance
      The Garden City Board of Trustees, in a 7 to 1 vote at their October 16th meeting, approved a bond resolution in the amount of $2,601,500 so improvements to Village Hall can move forward. Besides improvements to police headquarters and the fire department roof, the money will also cover the cost of construction and installation of a Village Hall elevator.

Breast Cancer Hotline Receives Grant
      For the fifth year, the Adelphi NY Statewide Breast Cancer Hotline & Support Program is a beneficiary of the Long Island 2 Day Walk To Fight Breast Cancer, receiving a grant of $31,500. The funds received assist the breast cancer program in its Paths to Wellness Program, a series of workshops for breast cancer patients.

HOLA Supports Operation Christmas Child
      On Monday, November 3rd HOLA of Garden City, Inc. will be collecting shoe boxes at the Garden City Library from 4:00-5:30pm for Samaritan's Purse - Operation Christmas Child. HOLA invites the children of Garden City to participate in this holiday collection by filling a shoe box with items such as toys, pencils, toothbrushes, hairbrushes, etc. and a shipping donation of $7.

      With Athena Well, the dogwoods have exited stage left and now it's the turn of the sugar maple trees to put on their show. I really do wish we had more of them. There is another tree with bright yellow leaves starting to turn and they, too, are lovely. One problem that I see around town is that we are losing many of our white birch trees that started late this past summer.

      On Columbus Day, the youngest members of the Welcoming Club of Garden City made some new friends. Our first children's event of the year was held at Build a Bear Workshop in Roosevelt Field Mall. The children were able to select a bear, fill it, and dress it in an outfit of their choice. The children and parents in attendance all had a wonderful time.
