U-12 GC Warriors Win First Place At Windsor
The proud Warriors with Coaches John Koester, Ray Larkin and Jim Fisher
Congratulations on a well earned first place finish, with a record of 5-0, with 13 goals for and 1 against. The boys gave a valiant effort in the first win against Granby, CT with timely goals by outside midfielder, Owen Fischer and striker, Kyle Bratton, whose brilliant passing set up the winning goal. After a solid effort against Westerfield to go up 2-0, with four goals for and a stellar defense, the team headed into the next day's games first against Massapequa and then Cromwell. Both matches were evenly played and left many on the sidelines holding their breath throughout much of the play, especially the one against Cromwell, who put on a tremendous amount of pressure towards the end of play. Kyle Bratton's sizzler of a shot from the right side proved to be the winner in the end and perhaps, the goal of the tournament. The Warriors game against Massapequa, who came in Second Place in the Tournament, brought out the heart in the boys as inside midfielder, Alex Franco secured the ball just outside the box and made a couple of nice moves to free himself for a low shot inside the near post. Extra kudos goes to Owen Fisher, who excelled in goal for both games. With First Place in hand, the boys went into the last game against Glastonberry, with a good mindset to advance their game to the next level. With the game in hand after a slow start at the second half, many of the boys enjoyed the opportunity to experience other positions after they went up 3-0, with goals by Kyle Bratton, striker, Matt Flynn and Connor Tariche. GC exhibited solid playing in the back by sweeper, James Walsh, stopper, Matt Greiner, left back, Jonathan Granville and right back, Gerard Smith and brilliant runs down the flank by outside midfielders, Chris Koester, Jonathan Morris, Connor T, as well as striker, Chris Larkin, who challenged the defense on a number of occasions. Both Owen Fisher, who notched his third goal of the tournament in the second half, and striker, Connor Muldoon were solid in goal. In addition to Alex Franco, midfielders, Bobby Clarke and Timmy Foxen, controlled midfield throughout the tournament and demonstrated the importance of playing the ball wide over and over again. All in all, it was a great effort by the Warriors. Congratulations again on their First Place finish. Go Warriors!
