Thunder O'Connor 7s Rockin' at East Rockaway

The Thunder O'Connor 7s took their traveling road show down south again in a "Coffee and Bagels" 9:00am match up against East Rockaway. East Rockaway was in their traditional "dark no sugar" Raiders jerseys and the Thunder 7s were in there "light and sweet" all white uniforms. Garden City won the toss and from the first play it was apparent GC was not going to be light and sweet on this morning. The offense called Student Body Right on the first play and proceed to meet Colin "Hurricane" Hart in the end zone 50 yards later. The much heralded Thunder "D" took the field for their first series. Liam "The Grinagog" Griffith was all smiles as he invited the defensive line into to the East Rockaway backfield for "Everything Bagels" on three consecutive plays. The defensive line spearheaded by Alex I'm Everywhere" Erickson, Connor "Six Shooter" Gunn, Matthew "The Cannon" Conelli, Riley " I Give Out the Hurty" Coughlin-Roberti, Dylan "The Deterninator" McDonald, Aidan "The Avalanche" O'Connor, and Jack "I Hunt In Red October" Ryan sent their RSVPs in early and often. Garden City got the ball back and with their second offensive play sent Student Body Left and met Justin "Crazy Legs" Coppola 50 yards and two lattes later in the end zone once again. Another Cinnamon Raisin Bagel meeting in the end zone with Justin made the halftime score 19-0. At halftime accolades and compliments were being extended to the offensive line for blowing off the ball and holding their blocks until the whistle sounded. Led by the Killer Bees of Brendan "The Brick" Campbell and Brendan "The Beast" McEvoy" this was clearly a demonstration any pro scout would have envied.

The second half featured the tough hard hitting Thunder defensive secondary. Cornerback Paul Varano Bridge made sure nobody crossed into his waterway and Jack "Be Nimble Watch Me Stick" Cobb set up "No Traffic on the Lower Level" signs all morning on his side of the field. Richard "The Pendulum" Petrone swung back and forth and enforced a painful but necessary "No Crossing the Center Median" policy all game long from his safety position. Richard "I Hit All Marooney and Night" played toll collector and did not accept E-Z Pass! Jack "Watch Me Enda!" Muldoon showed his moves and cutbacks with scampers on both sides of the field. As time ran out The GC Thunder offense called their play of the week. Teddy "I'm Reddy To Run" Ferzola stepped into the three back spot. He took the hand off faked left and then exploded through the 3 hole for a 5 yard gain. Teddy was the sixth back to run the ball Sunday! The final whistle sounded and the Thunder 7s were on the left side of a 25-6 score.

The O'Connor 7s return home Sunday for a 1:00pm game at Stewart School Field against perennial power house Farmingdale. Tailgating begins at 10:00am. Join Howie, Terry, and Jimmy at the field and support all your Thunder teams!
