The Tigers
The Tigers The weather could not have cooperated better for the weekend! This was the 4th year that the Tigers have participated in this tournament and it was one of their best showings yet!

The Tigers first game against the Windsor Locks Warriors played to a scoreless 0-0 tie. Despite the offensive firepower of Emily Quigley, Caitlin Rieger, Caitlin Gallant, Caitlin Riedell, Mariana Doyamis and Paige Lopez, the girls were repeatedly turned away by the stiff defense of the Warriors.

On Saturday afternoon, the Tigers seemed be ready to go against the Somers Spartans. The Spartans, coming off a 4-0 win, were a very well coached team and seemed to be the favorite to win in this bracket. The Tigers knew they were going to need to step up their game to contend "in the wild". This extremely physical game was controlled in the midfield by Kelly Punturo, Kelly O'Donnell, Katherine McGannon, Jacqueline Proctor, and Erin Giacini. The midfielders' relentless efforts to advance the ball to strike helped Kelly Punturo and Paige Lopez score 2 unanswered goals in this exciting 2-0 win! The Tiger defense "marked their territory" well with outstanding, speedy, play by Kathleen Demaria, Gabrielle Nastasi, Maggie Rogers, Emily Schlapp and Kelly O'Donnell who stifled the explosive offensive attacks launched by the Spartans! This turned out to be the Spartans only loss in the tournament.

Nicole Chtchekine's goal tending ability shined bright in this and all her appearances in the tournament. In addition, there was excellent goal tending by Mariana Doyamis and Caitlin Rieger as well. The defense and goal tending only allowed 1 goal the entire tournament!

On Sunday, the Tigers tied the Cromwell Comets in a very tough match 1-1. The Tigers led most of the game on a goal scored by Mariana Doyamis until the Comets tied it up with about 5 minutes to play. A well played game on both sides.

On late Sunday afternoon, the Windsor Barracudas couldn't hold off the "stripes". The possession was controlled by the relentless defense and strong midfielders. This 5-0 "mauling" gave the Tigers a much needed victory headed into Sunday. It was the offense that shined in this one with two goals scored by Katherine McGannon, one by Paige Lopez, one by the veteran Kelly Punturo and one from Gabrielle Nastasi.

On Monday morning, the Tigers played a great game against the Glastonbury Tomahawks. The Tomahawks were a tough opponent in this game and shut down the Tiger offense until about 3 minutes to go in the game when a Glastonbury player was called for a hand ball in the box. The penalty kick was taken and scored by Katherine McGannon!!! No pressure Katherine! The Tigers went on to win this one 1-0.

Congratulations to all the Tigers on a very well played tournament and good luck finishing the regular season! Thanks to all the Tiger parents and coaching staff Tom Demaria, Mark Quigley and Michael Proctor.
